The Fourth

My sister has been in town with her girls for a few weeks now while her husband is off getting paid to have fun with a bunch of teenagers. That meant I got to spend 4th of July with my two favorite nieces. :)  It was a low key day for the most part. Just sitting around chatting and eating lots of good food.
We did go watch fireworks (a must). It was so fun seeing it from my 2-year-old niece's perspective. She loved yelling out the colors while covering her ears and instructing us to cover ours as well. The sad part was the following morning when we asked her what she did the night before, and all she remembered was "sitting in Gigi's red truck." So funny. :)

My sister blinded us trying to take pictures in the pitch black with the flash, but I love this picture of us. :)

Halloween

I'm pretty sure the last time I dressed up for Halloween was when I was 12. Seriously, I haven't dressed up for Halloween in ages
But now this year. This year was different because of work. My job is part event planner which meant that I was in charge of the Halloween costume contest that included prizes. And you can not not dress up if you're the event planner. Plus, I'll do just about anything for a prize. ($25 Target gift card, hello?!)
There is a group of us upstairs (aka the admin team) that do lots of things together because, um, well, we work together all.the.time. And every year the admin team has a costume theme...
So here is it is: Halloween 2014

Night before trial run and a close-up of the headgear. Please excuse how rough I look. This was post-yoga workout.

happy thanksgiving? more like you're welcoming.

Better late than never is sadly becoming my new life motto.
Thanksgiving was small but fun.
Kait was all about trying out new recipes and delegating them. ;)
I lived vicariously through Kent's craftiness when he reupholstered a tiny rocking chair for Little Miss who looked adorable Thanksgiving day.
Patch found some much needed love and attention through Uncle Ben but did not get the same love when it came to the big meal.
And then we all sat in a vegetative state afterwards.
A good Thanksgiving indeed.

**Also, if you're curious about my title, it comes from this video which I find hilarious, and I hope you do too if you watch it.**

in the theme of playing catch up...

Here are a few photos from Fourth of July Eve.
Jordan's dad is a pilot, and his company reserved a hotel room for him. But he decided not to use it, so there was an empty hotel room up for grabs. So, of course, Jordan texted us and invited us over for a sleep over. After much convincing from Michelle (I wasn't feeling terribly social), we went and spent the night in a fancy hotel room!
We swam in the pool in the rain, did a late night food run, and watched HGTV. Clearly, it doesn't take much to entertain us. :)

Thanks, Jordan!
(P.S. We did get a group photo, but in the interest of self preservation and my pride, I'm not posting it.)

valentine's day fun.

valentine's day julia, eva, michelle, leanne, and I got together for a fun night of pizza and a movie.

julia and I made chicken pesto pizza inspired by wes and sara.
pesto, spinach leaves, chicken, tomatoes, green peppers, and lots of cheese. so good!

we watched taken 2 (so romantic!), and michelle arrived with these lovely flowers.

we also ate delicious cookie dough brownies and chocolate ice cream because nothing says valentine's day like chocolate. :)

where I've been

Here's what I've been up to for the past few months.

Christmas break started with a weekend trip to the mountains with all of the siblings that consisted of a phone call from the parents, amazing food, presents, a day hike to a gorgeous waterfall, and fun and games.

I headed back to Charleston for a week of work (boo). But I got to hang out with one of my good friends who is currently studying abroad in Costa Rica. So jealous!

I headed back to Lexington for Christmas with Kait, Kent, and Ben. It was a nice relaxing day. We slept, ate yummy food, and decorated sugar cookies. I was also very surprised with presents from Kait and Kent!

Hanging out with this cute guy for almost a month has made me want one of my own.

I've also been helping the parents-to-be get ready for Baby's arrival in April. Only two months to go!

And there you have it. My last two months summed up-- for the most part anyway.

it was time.

With the arrival of February, the roommates and I realized that it was probably (finally) time to take down the Christmas tree. And since we figured all of the tree disposal places were long gone, we did the one thing I was advised not to do: dump it in our side yard.

(note the green balloons hanging in the window? yeah, they're from Michelle's birthday. IN OCTOBER. Clearly we're good at taking down decorations.)

goodbye, dear tree. you were lovely.
