I won!

Yesterday our office had a a Memorial Day cookout! One of our managers organized it and said whoever brought a side or dessert would be entered into a drawing for prizes.
I hardly ever win anything, but I'm always up for trying to win something! I made a very ugly box cake, crossed my fingers, and waited for the drawing. AND I WON!!! The prize wasn't anything terribly exciting, but I was just excited I won!
Now I'm ready for our family vacation next month!
Happy Memorial Day weekend!!

the zoo!

A few weekends ago, our company put on an employee appreciation day at the zoo. I was so excited. I've only been to the zoo here once before for the lights at Christmas, so this was my first trip to the zoo in the daylight with the animals out!
My roommate tagged along even though I had to work for part of the day. However, we had the rest of the time to go around a look at the animals.

The giraffes might have been my favorite. They're just so cool looking!
This guy came to visit us. I think he thought we had food. We didn't, but lots of other little kids did.

Some of these animals reminded me of the BBC animal voice overs. Ha!

There were a few animals that I (and other five-year-olds) connected to Disney movies. (Nemo! Dori!)
Let me just say, that The Lion King is TOTALLY not drawn to scale. They are HUGE in real life! Nothing like the movie. I'm pretty sure the lioness could've killed me with one paw. It was crazy.

I don't have pictures, but I also won tickets to do the ropes course! It was slightly scary because I'm not a heights person, and the course was four stories high. I had a death grip on my harness rope, although I don't know why I thought it would help. (And a word of advice: flats are not the best shoes to wear!)
But there were kids flying across those things. They're fearless! And then there was me. The girl who made her roommate go across most of them first to make sure she would survive. :)

Halloween

I'm pretty sure the last time I dressed up for Halloween was when I was 12. Seriously, I haven't dressed up for Halloween in ages
But now this year. This year was different because of work. My job is part event planner which meant that I was in charge of the Halloween costume contest that included prizes. And you can not not dress up if you're the event planner. Plus, I'll do just about anything for a prize. ($25 Target gift card, hello?!)
There is a group of us upstairs (aka the admin team) that do lots of things together because, um, well, we work together all.the.time. And every year the admin team has a costume theme...
So here is it is: Halloween 2014

Night before trial run and a close-up of the headgear. Please excuse how rough I look. This was post-yoga workout.

the problem with working until 2 AM is that you sleep half of your day away

but getting a free chick-fil-a nugget platter last night made it worth it. as well as working with awesome people who make me laugh.

and this picture has nothing to do with work but my sister is in new orleans for the week and I miss her.

have I mentioned I'm not a morning person??

well I'm not. just in case you were wondering. not at all. so don't be offended if I don't talk to you in the morning. all that to say, this morning I had to be AT work at 6 am. no big deal for some. big deal for me. and I may or may not have woken up 5:20. but don't worry. I walked in at 6:00 on the dot and I was the third one out of five that were there this morning. so all things considered, I think I did pretty darn good.

on my days off...

I don't know what to do with myself. I really don't. on the one hand, I feel like I should be able to be completely lazy and do nothing because I work every other day. but then I think this is my one day off and I'm not going to do ANYTHING?! how lame is that??
so what do I do? I sit around thinking just that for a couple of hours and then decide I should DO SOMETHING. anything! so I do laundry (thrilling, I know). and then I go over to my sister's house and hang out and play with her dog and we agonize (her not me) what paint to use in the kitchen. and then we go to lowe's and agonize some more. and we wait out the really bad storm and go back and forth and back and forth and we even go to the kitchen section to compare it with a similar countertop. and then we decide we should watch a movie because what else do you do when it's raining?? so we rent eat, pray, love and I'm suddenly wanting to go to italy and learn italian from an attractive guy and eat lots of good food. after that, I eat my own (lame) dinner with my parents (I wanted italian! obviously), do more laundry, watch the middle with my parents and eat popcorn that my dad made (and he makes the best popcorn. his words, not mine). and then I go to bed.
and that ladies and gentlemen is my very exciting day off. I told you. I don't know what to do with myself.
I need a hobby.
(preferably one other than shopping. that's already my hobby. and I'm good at it. too good.)

a few photos my sister snapped of me and patch. in memory of my exciting but not so exciting day off. he's such a cutie.

last thursday

last thursday I had the day off and it was lovely.
I woke up with a whole list of things to do but my plans quickly changed when my mom invited me to go with her and my sister, kait whose husband, kent, decided to tag along too. after a quick errand, we made our way downtown and had so much fun!
we headed over to the backpacker because kait wanted to buy some chocos
mom found some goodies as well. she loves that store.
she loves jumping pictures.
after the backpacker we headed over to the new mast general store. it was so cute and they had some great stuff!

like this awesome chair mom found.
so! much! candy!
soda in a bottle for a dollar (or $1.50 depending on the size) and popcorn for 50 cents?! can't beat that.
such a cute couple.
on our way back we decided to stop in and see dad at work.

and because my sister can't resist a mini photoshoot in a parking garage...

I love having days off.
